Rednesday: Japanese Redware

This is my photograph for Rednesday hosted by Sue Loves Cherries. These are Japanese Redware pieces from the 1950s. They are more easy to find and a lot more affordable than antique New England Redware pieces. The Redware name comes from the reddish clay used to make them not necessarily from their exterior color which usually is brown or black. These pieces are so very Mid Century and super kitschy!

Do you collect any Mid Century items?

A Vintage Kind of Love

Today is Valentine's Day...a special day when you express your love to your sweetheart. I still have some of the cards that I received as a child...a long, long time ago. I am in love with the vintage art work on the older cards. In my Reprise Vintage shop I share my love of vintage and retro on cards and many other gift items. Hope your day is filled with love, especially the vintage kind.

Penny's World

Penny Brite was one of the dolls that I played with during my childhood. I remember carrying her around in her little see-thru plastic case, especially when on long car trips. I don't ever remember having any other clothes for her besides her original dress. Nostalgia kicked in a few years ago and I went shopping for those items that every Penny Brite doll deserves. Doesn't Penny have such a sweet little face? Be careful you just might fall in love with her just by looking at these pictures from my personal collection.

Penny Brite in her original plastic case (circa 1964). The carry case doubles as a closet for Penny's clothes when the handle is bent down inside her case.

Here is the cover of the Penny Brite booklet that came attached to the back of her case and inside her boxed outfits.

This is the back of a Penny Brite boxed outfit. It only shows 6 of the 12 boxed outfits that were made for Penny Brite by DeLuxe Reading/Topper Toys. The names of all 12 of the boxed Penny Brite outfits are: "Chit Chat" "Singing in the Rain" "Sun and Fun" "Winter Princess" "Anchors Aweigh" "Flower Girl" "Sweet Violet" "Velvet Princess" "Picnic Treat" "Sunday Best" "Smart Shopper" and "Sheer Delight".
In another post I'll share more of Penny's outfits, playsets and other goodies. What were some of your favorite childhood dolls or toys?
If you love retro like I do be sure to visit my Reprise shop.

Pause & Refresh

My heart, which is so full to overflowing, has often been solaced and refreshed by music when sick and weary.
Martin Luther (1483 - 1546)

True silence is the rest of the mind; it is to the spirit what sleep is to the body, nourishment and refreshment.
William Penn (1644 - 1718)

To look backward for a while is to refresh the eye, to restore it, and to render it the more fit for its prime function of looking forward.
Margaret Fairless Barber

To sit in the shade on a fine day, and look upon verdure is the most perfect refreshment.
Jane Austen (1775 - 1817)

You find yourself refreshed by the presence of cheerful people. Why not make an honest effort to confer that pleasure on others? Half the battle is gained if you never allow yourself to say anything gloomy.
Lydia M. Child

I love vintage signs! Here is a design I created for my Reprise Vintage shop using a photograph I took of a vintage soft drink sign.

How do you refresh and renew yourself?

Soda or Pop?

These two names seem to be used by people in different areas of the USA for soft drinks. My family has always called any soft drink soda. We are also "Peppers". Having family roots "deep in the heart of Texas" for many generations it is just natural that we would all love Dr Pepper. Dr Pepper was created in Waco, Texas in 1885 and that makes it the oldest major soft drink brand.

I created this retro design for my Reprise Vintage shop in honor of everybody's favorite iced cold bubbly beverage...be it soda or pop.

What is your favorite soft drink and do you call it soda or pop?

1950's Kitchen

I adore vintage ads and 1950's retro style. My kitchen and dining room are filled with decorative items that were probably used every day when my mom was a young wife. My favorite color theme is red and white, so I decorate with a lot of vintage red and white enamelware. To celebrate the 1950's kitchen I've created designs for my Reprise Vintage shop. Here is one example featuring my 1950's Rooster design. I think he is perfect for a retro style kitchen.

What is your favorite kitchen & dining room style?

Tea Makes Me Happy

While coffee might be the #1 hot morning beverage choice in this country I prefer a nice warm cup of tea. Comforting, relaxing and I like the fact that the green tea that I drink helps to keep me healthier (and there are studies that prove this). Here is a design I created for my Reprise Vintage shop for all of you tea lovers.

Does your tea make you happy?

Retro Business Cards

Some of the most popular items that I design and sell at my Reprise Vintage shop are business cards. I love creating business cards with retro and vintage designs. Here is an example of one of the designs. If you are looking for business cards with a retro or vintage theme please check out my selection.

50's Love with a Twist

I grew up in the 50's, 60's and early 70's so I have a special place in my heart for those eras. As I tell my children, I'm not old, I'm 'vintage'. I love that I grew up in the era of hot rods, pin-up girls and rock 'n' roll. In my world all of those things are still 'king'. When I create a new design for my Reprise Vintage shop I am greatly influenced by the eras I grew up in. As you can see by this card I added a little twist to celebrate our current era.
