Saturday Stories: Full Term

This is a story that my great-grandmother wrote about her own mother, my great-great grandmother. Hope you enjoy it. :)

When my mother was small one of the schools near her home had a group of teenage boys who caused so much trouble no teacher would put up with it. They would leave before the end of the term. One term they hired a young man who was a stranger. They told him some of the troubles but he seemed unconcerned. On the first day of school he walked up to his desk carrying an awful looking horse whip. He hung it on the wall behind him, and turning to the students he said with a pleasant smile, "I use that to defend myself, and am very efficient in its use. I've won many trophies but I just hope we don't have to use it here." He didn't, and he taught the full term.

Vintage Thingie Thursday: On My Desk

This is my photograph for Vintage Thingie Thursday hosted by Coloradolady. I thought I would share a few antique items that are on my vintage oak desk. The pocket watch is broken but I still love it. I also love old cameras. I use the Brownie camera to take TTVF (through the viewfinder) photos with my digital camera. The set of leatherbound books are signed 1815 by an ancestor and were passed down through the family. The little envelope is filled with miniture photographs from "Cave of the Winds". Hope everyone has a wonderful Thursday!

Rednesday: Old Disney Movie

Before the days of video cameras there were film cameras. I was born in the 1950s and my grandparents had a 8mm movie film camera and projector. They passed both down to me along with old family movies. I also have old cartoon 8mm movies like this Disney one. Love the nostalgia things like this movie bring to me. Happy Rednesday everyone!

Forgotten Fridays: Rotary Phones

Nothing makes me feel my age than finding something in an antique mall that I grew up with. Right now mid century items are all the collecting rage. Among those items are rotary phones. I grew up with nothing but rotary phones in our household. In fact at one time we were even on a party line. I sure wish I had saved some of our rotary phones as they seem to be going for pretty high prices in antique stores.

Is there something from your childhood that is now considered collectible?

This darling Bulldog, that I have named "Spike", is part of my green depression glass collection. He was made by Greensburg Glass Works and is a very cool art deco design ashtray. I am sharing him for Vintage Thingie Thursday hosted by Coloradolady. Hope everyone has a wonderful Thursday!
