Color Your World

The white light streams down to be broken up by those human prisms into all the colors of the rainbow. Take your own color in the pattern and be just that.
~Charles R. Brown

Just as a prism of glass miters light and casts a colored braid, a garden sings sweet incantations the human heart strains to hear. Hiding in every flower, in every leaf, in every twig and bough, are reflections of the God who once walked with us in Eden.
~Tonia Triebwasser, The Color of Grace

A word is not a crystal, transparent and unchanging, it is the skin of a living thought and may vary greatly in color and content according to the circumstances and time in which it is used.
~Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. (1841 - 1935)

The courage to imagine the otherwise is our greatest resource, adding color and suspense to all our life.
~Daniel Boorstin

I hope today's post brings a little spring to your winter. I really enjoy photographing nature and especially beautiful flowers. Here is a design from my Reprise Vintage shop.

What is your favorite flower?

Pause & Refresh

My heart, which is so full to overflowing, has often been solaced and refreshed by music when sick and weary.
Martin Luther (1483 - 1546)

True silence is the rest of the mind; it is to the spirit what sleep is to the body, nourishment and refreshment.
William Penn (1644 - 1718)

To look backward for a while is to refresh the eye, to restore it, and to render it the more fit for its prime function of looking forward.
Margaret Fairless Barber

To sit in the shade on a fine day, and look upon verdure is the most perfect refreshment.
Jane Austen (1775 - 1817)

You find yourself refreshed by the presence of cheerful people. Why not make an honest effort to confer that pleasure on others? Half the battle is gained if you never allow yourself to say anything gloomy.
Lydia M. Child

I love vintage signs! Here is a design I created for my Reprise Vintage shop using a photograph I took of a vintage soft drink sign.

How do you refresh and renew yourself?

Baseball, Apple Pie & Drag Racing.

I love old cars and trucks! Here is a little history of where that love comes from. I grew up in the 50's, 60's and early 70's with rock n' roll and muscle cars. My dad started drag racing in 1961 with a 1957 Mercury Montclair. He then raced a 1962 Volvo 122S (with the 1800cc engine) and then a 1964 Comet Cyclone.

His favorite and most successful drag car was his 1969 cj428 Cougar Eliminator. He still owns two Cougar Eliminators (the 1969 cj428 & a 1970 351c) and a very rare 1969 XR-7 cj428 convertible. Though he no long races he shows these beauties in car shows around the country.

When I was growing up I spent many happy weekends at the race track. I remember falling asleep after a day at the races with the sound of dragsters still in my head. So when I attend our local hotrod shows I am filled with wonderful nostalgia of growing up when hotrods and rock n' roll were kings (and in my world they still are!)

Here is one of the designs I created for my Reprise Vintage shop. It features close-up photographs I took of hot rod flame paint jobs. Hope it takes you back to the days when you could 'chirp' your tires through 3 gears and still win the race.

What was your first car? Do you have any favorite classic cars?

Soda or Pop?

These two names seem to be used by people in different areas of the USA for soft drinks. My family has always called any soft drink soda. We are also "Peppers". Having family roots "deep in the heart of Texas" for many generations it is just natural that we would all love Dr Pepper. Dr Pepper was created in Waco, Texas in 1885 and that makes it the oldest major soft drink brand.

I created this retro design for my Reprise Vintage shop in honor of everybody's favorite iced cold bubbly beverage...be it soda or pop.

What is your favorite soft drink and do you call it soda or pop?

1950's Kitchen

I adore vintage ads and 1950's retro style. My kitchen and dining room are filled with decorative items that were probably used every day when my mom was a young wife. My favorite color theme is red and white, so I decorate with a lot of vintage red and white enamelware. To celebrate the 1950's kitchen I've created designs for my Reprise Vintage shop. Here is one example featuring my 1950's Rooster design. I think he is perfect for a retro style kitchen.

What is your favorite kitchen & dining room style?

Tea Makes Me Happy

While coffee might be the #1 hot morning beverage choice in this country I prefer a nice warm cup of tea. Comforting, relaxing and I like the fact that the green tea that I drink helps to keep me healthier (and there are studies that prove this). Here is a design I created for my Reprise Vintage shop for all of you tea lovers.

Does your tea make you happy?

Love, Love, Love

In the 60's and 70's of my youth "love" and "peace" were major themes. I remember the "Love Story" poster on my wall and doodling "love" all over my "peachy" school folders. Here is a design from my Reprise Vintage shop that takes me back to those days.

Retro Business Cards

Some of the most popular items that I design and sell at my Reprise Vintage shop are business cards. I love creating business cards with retro and vintage designs. Here is an example of one of the designs. If you are looking for business cards with a retro or vintage theme please check out my selection.

50's Love with a Twist

I grew up in the 50's, 60's and early 70's so I have a special place in my heart for those eras. As I tell my children, I'm not old, I'm 'vintage'. I love that I grew up in the era of hot rods, pin-up girls and rock 'n' roll. In my world all of those things are still 'king'. When I create a new design for my Reprise Vintage shop I am greatly influenced by the eras I grew up in. As you can see by this card I added a little twist to celebrate our current era.

Reprise for Kids

At my Reprise Vintage shop, I take great pride in all of my designs, and I feel grateful that you share my enthusiasm, but I feel more than usually excited about the debut of my brand new line of infants’ and children’s wear designed by my very talented partner. The custom graphics are so incredibly, undeniably, irresistibly cute you can’t help saying, “Awww, how adorable is that!” Naturally, these great new designs adorn well-made, durable onesies and t-shirts, so that they will stand-up to all the hard wear a baby or toddler can deliver.

Of course, I continue developing my popular lines of business products and adults’ wear, and I add new designs daily. I encourage you to shop frequently, and I hope that, every time you visit my Reprise Vintage shop, you find new products to love and wear proudly. Just as importantly, I welcome your suggestions and comments. Seize the opportunity to tell me what you would like.

I wish you the very best of all good things in 2010, and I hope that Reprise Vintage designs adorn you, your children, your office, and your home as the new year and the new decade unfold.

A New Year and A New Post

Happy New Year! I've let this blog sit without a new post for too long! It goes to show you that I enjoy reading, photography, and creating over writing. One of my resolutions is to try to post some of my favorite things (especially yummy vintage) on this blog more often. Of course, we all know that most New Year's resolutions are not kept. But it is the thought that counts, right? So here is my first post of the new year.

I've been busy creating Valentine's Day items for my Reprise Vintage shop. Yes, I know that it is only Jan 2nd but many of the items that I have created are perfect for any day of the year. I was pleased to receive a Today's Best Award for the following T-shirt design. It reminds me of the 1970's. I hope you like it too.
